Upgrading standard weapons in Elden Ring requires a steady supply of upgrade materials, and transitioning to mid-game gear often hinges on finding Smithing Stone 3. Players reaching Liurnia of the Lakes will need these materials to push their armaments up to +9, significantly boosting damage output. Knowing the best locations to harvest and loot these stones helps streamline your character's progression without unnecessary grinding.
Looting the Tunnels of Raya Lucaria
The primary location for gathering Smithing Stone 3 early in your journey is the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel located in Liurnia. Exploring the walls of this mine reveals multiple yellow-glowing ore veins that yield several stones upon interaction. Additionally, defeating the miners working inside offers a chance at extra drops to bolster your inventory.
Scouring Gazebos and Ruins Across Liurnia
Aside from underground mines, several outdoor locations throughout the Liurnia of the Lakes region house clusters of upgrade materials. You can find three stones resting in a stone gazebo southeast of the Academy Gate Town grace, though you should watch out for nearby enemies. Following daily gaming news updates often reveals strategic map routes that make clearing these open-world pick-ups much faster.
Exploring Ainsel River and Ruin-Strewn Precipice
Venturing down into the Ainsel River Well leads to several corpses holding Smithing Stone 3 scattered along the cavern paths. Another reliable route is the Ruin-Strewn Precipice, where multiple stones can be looted from tents and structures near tough foes. Checking these secondary areas ensures you collect enough materials to upgrade multiple weapons before tackling major bosses.
Unlocking Unlimited Purchase Options
For players who prefer a guaranteed supply, delivering the Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing [2] to the Twin Maiden Husks is the ideal solution. This key item is found inside a chest within the Sealed Tunnel located near the Altus Plateau outskirts. Once offered, the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold will sell unlimited Smithing Stone 3 for 600 runes each.
